SAND

The Workflow

How It Works

From opening the app to a multi-tiered surveillance dashboard — the twelve steps of a SAND test.

01

Set up

Open the app and tell SAND what you are testing, and for whom.

  1. Open SAND app

  2. Select Infection and RDT Type

  3. Enter Person/Patient details

02

Run the test

SAND times the test for you — scan once to start the clock, once again when it is due.

  1. Add Blood and Buffer to RDT as per RDT-specific protocol

  2. Scan RDT immediately in SAND after adding blood and buffer to start timer

  3. Wait for timer alert (SAND auto-enables timer, specific for the selected RDT)

  4. At timer alert, scan the same RDT again in SAND

03

AI reads it

Computer vision interprets the cassette and scores its own confidence.

  1. AI Analysis

    Computer vision algorithms:

    • Detect control line
    • Validate image quality
    • Detect test line(s)
    • Determine result [positive, negative, invalid]
    • Generate confidence score of report
  2. SAND onscreen report generated

04

Actions

The result drives the next clinical action, then feeds the surveillance picture.

  1. Take relevant actions prompted by SAND report

  2. Secure upload

Results and metadata are securely uploaded to relevant online database(s).

  3. SAND Dashboard

    Multi-tiered authorised access:

    • Infection-specific stats with geo-specificity
    • Customised views by age, gender, geo-location, institution/programme
